Program Overview
The Promise Keepers experience is, well… life changing. Something special happens when men take to the athletic arena to praise and worship God. A new level of engagement is achieved. The videos, comedy, recognized national subject experts, small group interaction and masculine worship are all focused on delivering high impact messages that create a significant marker in the lives in men.
2008 CONFERENCE OVERVIEWThe identity of men and the concept of manhood itself are under assault. Who and what defines a man? What gives him purpose and meaning? Philosopher Thomas Carlyle summed it up when he said, “Show me the man you honor, and I will know what kind of man you are, for it shows me what your ideal of manhood is and what kind of man you long to be.” Promise Keepers believes that there is a timeless, immovable standard, independent of history and cultural changes — in the person, the man, Jesus Christ.
The Manhood ‘08 program is aimed at equipping men to get a handle on their life and mission, amidst a shifting culture that is sometimes outright hostile. Promise Keepers intends to deliver the message that a real man loves God more than anything else and is willing to progressively receive his help in becoming more like Jesus in how he thinks, lives, and relates to others this side of heaven. So, how are you doing in your daily walk? Are you responding in the Spirit or in the flesh?
SIX SESSIONS TO HELP EQUIP MEN FOR BATTLEFriday Evening - 6:30 to 10:00 p.m.
“The Battle for Eternity” -- The truth is that a man left to himself is lost from God’s point of view. Until a man faces the reality of his own condition apart from God, he lives a self-centered, self-absorbed, life governed by his own thinking and susceptible to the deceptive thinking of the world and the dark enemy of his soul. What regrets weigh you down and cause you to cringe? What are the core things that give you meaning and purpose? Will your answers help you survive the dark and trying seasons of life?
Promise 1: A Promise Keeper is committed to honoring Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and obedience to God's word.
“The Battle for Truth” -- Today’s culture – knowingly and unknowingly — embraces a progressively relativistic perspective towards truth. We want to be clear: the Bible is objective, definitive, absolute truth. It is the only fully inspired-by-God collection of recordings, stories and writings that together capture the thoughts and Words of God with integrity, accuracy, conviction and life. Whose truth does your life reveal? Do you know and can you defend absolute truth?
Promise 1: A Promise Keeper is committed to honoring Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and obedience to God's word.
Saturday - 9:00 a.m. to NOON
“The Battle for Godliness” – We believe God by nature is personal, immutable, omniscient, omnipotent. He possesses personality, emotions, rationale and reason — the ability to communicate, to speak, to be heard, and to listen. Yet it is a rare man who pursues a deep enough relationship that he knows the voice and will of his father on a regular basis. Men need help in practically relating to a sovereign God. So how personal is your relationship? When was the last time you heard his voice with confidence?
Promise 1: A Promise Keeper is committed to honoring Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and obedience to God's word.
“The Battle for Freedom” -- Sexual temptation and addiction among men is extensive. Promise Keepers surveyed men asking them to identify the top issues and struggles that impeded their spiritual growth — 62% of them indicated pornography and sexual sin. This research took place before the expansion of the internet. We want to help men live in the world but not “be of the world”. If God created sex and sex is good from His perspective, then how can a man desiring to follow Jesus in our sex-infused culture understand the traps, be free from them and be content and faithful in his marriage or in his singleness? If you are trapped in sexual darkness and perversion of some kind, do you want freedom? Are you willing to do your part in moving towards sexual freedom?
Promise 3: A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing sexual purity.
Saturday Afternoon - 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
“The Battle for Priorities” – It’s not that we do not have choices or alternatives, but that we are saturated by a myriad of diversions. George Barna succinctly sums it up: “Our era is noted for distractions, stress, technology, choice, busyness, information overload and mistrust”. Men struggle with stewarding their time so they can focus on the critical things without allowing the distractions to clutter up their lives. If you were to assess how you currently spend your time, what do your actions communicate? What are your priorities based on your actions? Which priorities of yours align with God’s thinking about time and which do not?
Promise 4: A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families.
“The Battle for Influence” -- Think of a sphere of influence as a path a man travels regularly in a typical day in his life. In today’s world of technology and global travel, a man can engage others in cities worldwide in a short period of time. A man’s sphere of influence is customized to the world in which he works and lives, and to the people God brings into his path. Men need help integrating their faith and love for God in how they think, live and relate within their sphere of influence. What is defining you - your faith or the world?
Promise 7: A Promise Keeper is committed to influencing his world.
