PKAdventure: "A Spiritual High"

For Immediate Release - Nov. 13, 2007

PKAdventure: “A spiritual high” “Right on track”  “Wow!”

Denver, Colo. – The inaugural PKAdventure cinema event is in the books, and it was a hit!  Nearly 2000 men attended digital cinema events at a dozen movie theaters around the continental United States.  The 90-minute video presentation featured an exclusive interview with champion pro football coach Tony Dungy, a drama from L.A.-based Awaken, music from the Promise Keepers music team PK7, and emcee Reggie Dabbs.  A wide range of local community service projects were organized around the theater event.

“A real inspiration, a REAL example”

Tony Dungy, whose book Quiet Strength is Amazon’s number 1 motivational book (and #53 overall), impressed the men with his down-to-earth wisdom.  “It was a great wake-up call to see Tony Dungy never lose his focus,” said Randy Mason at the Walled Lake, Mich. event.  “I was encouraged to be a light in the darkness.”

“I liked seeing a man like Tony Dungy find life’s purpose through trusting God,” wrote another man to promisekeepers.org.

“Something we can do”

Half of the men who attended the theater experience also participated in some form of community service.  Food drives were held in Mary Esther, Ft. Lauderdale and Jensen Beach, Fla., Indianapolis, Walled Lake, Mich., Albuquerque, King of Prussia, Pa., and Salt Lake City.  Across all locations, an estimated ton of food was collected.

“This donation came just in time,” said Jannetta Lamort of the Albuquerque Rescue Mission..  “We don’t want to turn anyone away, and the shelves are a bit thin before the holiday donations really increase.”

Building repair, landscaping and light construction were conducted with Habitat for Humanity and other local charities in Jensen Beach, Fla., Cincinnati, King of Prussia, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Salt Lake City.  In Jensen Beach, Fla. one young widow saw 90% of her home repairs finished in a few hours.  A landscaping crew spruced up the home of a disabled Korean War veteran.  At the Utah Dream Center, men painted and did roof repair.

Blood drives were carried out in Jensen Beach, Albuquerque and Nashville, raising more than 30 units of blood.  Clothing drives were held in Portland, Ore., King of Prussia, Nashville and Salt Lake City

One attendee said, “PK is finally giving us something we can do.”

Plan to attend the next edition of PKAdventure, scheduled for Saturday, March 29th, 2008 at a digital movie theater near you.
